Just received this letter:
I am Murray Barnett from Barnett’s bakery in Anstruther Fife Scotland near St Andrews. I watched all of your shows and tried to put as much as I could back into my business. The bakery showed me that there might be a Market for artisan breads where I live and work. I start to make them in June and from making none, within three weeks I was making 300 a day. This was a huge help to my business and has brought more passion for the whole industry. I owe you so much for doing this for me. I would love for you to come and see what I have done and more so what you have done for me!

Dear Mary, Can you turn your attention to the appalling service in so many Public Houses which also claim to be restaurants. Bar staff do not know how to pull a pint or measure out spirits. In so many places which are selling themselves as modern, smart places to be the staff are not trained and do not understand English, Quoi? when you place an order does not give confidence, and timing can be dreadful. Twenty minutes to place an order when you need to eat in reasonable time before turning up on time for a funeral – not good. Places and timings can be quoted. Please help. I would like to support local endevour, but some do make it difficult.

Hi Mary. In response to Murray’s lovely note, I decided to organise a women’s only event thanks to you and your success. Its been in the pipeline since October but the event is set for April 5th of this year at the Mayfair Hotel London. The event is called Sexy in the City the London Edition and it’s about getting women to talk about things that are considered taboo in today’s society. Things such as burlesque (there will be dancing!), sex, tantra, catwalks, walking in stiletto heels, and why women have cosmetic procedures. It’s going to be done in a glamorous way. we are 4 faustrated table traders in a hall. we would like to have the bigger hall in kingsbridge which is lighter and airier but cannot until we get more traders but cant get them because customers wont walk up catch 22 we really need help but not just us.
I love this town and it is supposed to be a tourist market town but people go to totnes in the afternoon because places are closed early.
its school hols there are 32 cafe’s and restaraunts and many stop serving early.
we also have 3 open markets on the quay each week and they dont do that well except for the 6 weeks hols.
PLEASE HELP I want my little business to thrive and save up for a bakery one day I am doing this off my own back,business loans and dont like to fail,
my friends want to succeed too and grow but this town is holding us back and we are out of ideas to try.

Simple but quality clothing is becoming harder and harder to find. When I look around me, all I usually see are terribly dressed British women, wearing over-embellished clothing – like clowns attending a ‘chav’ wedding. More simplicity is needed.
- the range of clothing available on fashion retailers’ web sites is considerably more extensive than they will ever stock in-store. This is a huge problem. Most of what I ever find for myself cannot be found in the high street store; only on the corresponding website. Stores really ought to stock everything on their website – that sounds like a tall order, but such limited selections, again geared to the *bling brigade* get them nowhere.
- the dreadful Love2Shop gift cards (devised by you? maybe not?) are useless for the above reason (point 2) – because you are not able to use them for online purchases, one is restricted to the high street shop…when there is nothing to buy. I have just been given a £60 voucher, which is essentially unusable for clothes. I am so grumpy, I actively looked for your website just to tell you how cross I am about this. In recession times, when good clothing is hard to afford, I am somewhat upset I cannot spend this voucher on anything that will not make me look like a clown. The choice of _failing_ shops this voucher relates to tells me all I need to know about why the high street is _deservedly_ failing. Julia
